Government employees.....they are out to get us! lol
Ok, so I was telling my family about the whole drivers lisence story and my brother jokingly reminded me of another government employee story. This last fall my little family went up to Liberty to spend the weekend with our in-laws, they have a get-a-way house up there. We had a great weekend, we hung-out and helped them take out a bunch of bushes in the yard there. We packed our trailer and truck full of stuff to go to the dump.
So we are coming back from Liberty and headed to the dump....the dump closes at 6. We got there about 5:45 pm. B and Z start unloading, I stayed in the truck with the girls. S had burnt her finger on a lamp earlier in the day and had been crying all afternoon, I felt so bad for her. She kept falling asleep, and unless I kept the ice on her finger she would wake up again, it was a hard day. Anyway, the girls and I are in the truck and we see one of the dump workers drive around and up to the gate. He drives right past us and looks at us. After a few minutes I decided I needed to help B unload so we could get done faster. So I start helping and the worker drives by again. I was kind of hoping he would offer to help but he didn't. So a few minutes later we see the worker leave. B and I finish unloading a few minutes later, we get in the truck and we start heading out, now mind you its 6:15. We drive up to the gate and its CLOSED! WITH A LOCK ON IT! I get out and see if they just put the lock on but didn't lock it, I mean its not like they didn't see us or know we were there! But NO it is locked and we are INSIDE! B and I can't believe it! So we drive around the dump looking for any sign of employee that can let us out. Now not only are we locked in the dump but its a long weekend.....so we could be here until tuesday! The kids are kind of scared and we kind of try to laugh and call it an adventure. Z has to pee, well they locked us in! So what are we going to do?? What would you do? We let the poor kid pee at the dump of course! We drive all around the dump......B thinks there may be another entrance for the city trucks.....but sadly no, we can tell you there is only one way in and the same way out of the dump. So after driving around we decide to call the police department, non-emergency of course. The police can't believe they locked us in. In the mean time B calls his brother (that we were helping in Liberty) and tells him the situation, he offers to come down and we can lift the kids over the gate, we decline. B wants to break out his saws-all and break the lock, as much as I like this idea (after all, they locked us in!) I think that is a bad idea, I don't need my husband locked up in jail for breaking a city lock. So after a half hour wait finally a police shows up and unlocks the gate. The officer was cool about it, he was as shocked as we were. The thing is, yes they were closing, but you would think the worker would come and tell us either to leave and come back after the weekend, or help us or some kind of communication! But NO he just decided to lock us in! I seriously hope he gets locked in some kind of situation some day! So after all my recent government employee experiences, I think they are out to get us, so beware!! lol

Sara....How do you know the Hodsons?
ReplyDeleteAimee, we were friends in the same ward when we lived down in Orem. Do you know them?
ReplyDeleteWe love Hodsons of all shapes and sizes! Brian and Christie's kids and ours go to the same school, same stake, but two of his younger brothers are in our ward. One of them is Trent's business partner. And both of them have fabulous wives that I couldn't get along with out. Very small world.
ReplyDeleteI remember you sharing that story...through FB maybe? That is sad, but really funny. You need to keep this stuff in your family journal. ha ha :)
